Breast Lift (Mastopexy)
Over the years, factors such as pregnancy, nursing, and the force of gravity take their toll on a woman’s breasts. As the skin loses its elasticity, the breasts often lose their shape and firmness and begin to sag.
Breast lift, or mastopexy, is a surgical procedure designed to raise and reshape sagging breasts. Mastopexy can also reduce the size of the areola (the darker skin surrounding the nipple). If your breasts are small, or if they have lost volume, breast implants inserted, in conjunction with a mastopexy, can increase both their firmness and their size.
It is often necessary to remove a portion of the sagging breast tissue at the bottom of the breast in order to prevent recurrence.
The operation is usually performed under general anesthesia, although minor breast lifts can be performed under local anesthesia.
Most patients are able to return to sedentary work within two or three days.
