Non Endoscopic Brow Lift

Deep furrows on the forehead, frown lines over the eyes, drooping eyebrows and hood-like skin over the eyes are all conditions that can make you look older than you are or feel. Whether age or heredity causes these conditions, a forehead lift (or brow lift) can give you a more youthful, animated and alert appearance.

Today the vast majority of brow lifts are performed with endoscopic techniques (see endoscopic brow, cheek and upper face lift). In some patients, however, the following techniques may be preferable.

SUBCUTANEOUS BROW LIFT: This procedure is indicated for patients with high foreheads, especially if they wear bangs that will help minimize the visibility of the scar. It is performed through an incision at the limit of the hairline, and it is quite effective in improving transverse forehead lines. The procedure is designed to lower a high forehead instead of raising it.

OPEN BROW LIFT: This technique is designed to raise the eyebrows through incisions placed in a transverse forehead crease. It is indicated in patients with relatively thick skin who have fairly prominent transverse lines across their forehead and tend to heal facial scars well. It can be performed in the office under local anesthesia.

DIRECT BROW LIFT: This procedure is performed through incisions in the eyelid crease and through the brow itself. It is indicated in patients who need a mild to moderate elevation, especially if they need an upper blepharoplasty (eyelid lift) at the same time. It is effective in raising the tail but not the head of the brow.

CORONAL BROW LIFT: This technique is probably the oldest method designed to raise the eyebrows. It is performed through a long incision across the scalp. This procedure has been replaced by endoscopic techniques, which are less invasive. It is rarely indicated.

Forehead and brow lifts may be performed alone, or along with other procedures such as a facelift or a blepharoplasty (eyelid lift).

After an open brow lift, most patients are able to return to their normal activities the next day. The recovery after a direct or an open brow lift may take two or three days. After a coronal brow lift, patients may take up to one week before they are able to return to work.

If you are considering improving the appearance of your forehead and of your eyes, Dr. Boemi will meet with you for an individual consultation in order to determine if you are a good candidate for a brow lift, and to plan the most appropriate technique to meet your expectations. He would like you to bring a snapshot of yourself a few years earlier, which will help him plan the procedure avoiding unnatural results

The important decision of considering Plastic Surgery begins with a personal consultation. Please call to set up an hour long meeting with Dr. Boemi that covers your goals, any questions you have concerning surgery, and imaging.
