Endoscopic Face Lift

Although the traditional facelift operation is still the best choice for most patients, there are additional options that are now offered in cosmetic surgery. This procedure provides rejuvenation of the forehead and of the midface (cheek) through small incisions hidden in the hairline and in the upper gum line.
Endoscopic surgery is performed through small incisions that allow the insertion of a TV camera under the tissues. The procedure is performed while watching a TV monitor, which magnifies the images of the body’s deep structures.

In a typical endoscopic procedure, only a few small incisions, each less than one inch long, are needed to insert the endoscopic probe and other specially designed instruments.

An endoscopic brow lift will achieve rejuvenation of the brow and forehead. An endoscopic upper facelift will provide a rejuvenation of the cheek and a subtle elevation of the upper lip, in addition to the improvement of the brow and forehead. It is also possible to perform an endoscopic mid-facelift alone (without lifting brow and forehead at the same time). The latter procedure, however, if performed alone, tends to worsen the appearance of the “smile lines” (or crow’s feet) around the eyes.

The best candidates for endoscopic facial rejuvenation are patients with signs of aging limited to the upper two-thirds of the face. These patients tend to be younger than the ones who have pronounced signs of aging in the lower face and neck. These individuals are better candidates for a traditional facelift.

Endoscopic facial rejuvenating procedures can be performed at the same time of a facelift, and/or an eyelid lift. When an endoscopic upper facelift is combined with a traditional facelift, the procedure is called “multiplanar facelift”.

All these procedures are usually performed in a fully accredited ambulatory surgery facility, under general anesthesia. It is also possible to perform these procedures under local anesthesia with intravenous sedation in selected individuals.

After all of these procedures, there will be a variable amount of bruising and swelling, most of which resolve within three or four weeks. Temporary numbness in the areas of the operation is expected, and it can last up to eight weeks.
